Niva Retimanu - Saint Clair Half Marathon Tour 2013

This is the most scenic half marathon in New Zealand and it exceeded all my expectations, I thoroughly enjoyed running through twenty-one vineyards taking in the breathtaking views of Marlborough.

And if that wasn't enough, runners were entertained every five kilometres by a pipe-band, banjo and bongo players and a local kapa-haka group. his unique event showcased Marlborough produce at its best.

During the course, runners were treated to food and wine tastings - including salmon, mussels, gelato, chocolate and local wine. This created a warm friendly atmosphere during the run which attracted runners and walkers of all levels of fitness from throughout New Zealand.

One of the highlights of this trip was being part of the Get Running tour group. There was a fantastic team spirit and our party of twenty bonded well and strong friendships were forged within two days. I'm not known for my speed running, it took me over three hours to complete the half marathon but Gaz and the Get Running crew encouraged me all the way and as I ran to the finish line they were there in force cheering me on. Gaz is highly organised and it was fantastic not to have to worry about anything but 'running'.

We stayed at luxurious Vintners Retreat in Marlborough, visited various wineries and had a fabulous lunch in a private room at Wither Hills - plus much much more.

I had such a great time I have signed up for the next Get Running Tour - destination Taupo.

And Saint Clair - watch out, I'm coming back next year.
