GetRunning Weekly Memo - March 30th 2011

Hi Runners,

Paris Marathon

Its just around the corner and excitingly close, next Wednesday 23 of us leave for the Paris Marathon. Only months ago I wasn't sure if I would be able to travel over to Paris with the group, due to a slight mishap involving several vehicles and a nice stay in hospital. But.. After 3 months and with only 1 week to go I am ready along with Kerre Woodham hosting the group, she has been just amazing in helping me with the business plus personally helping myself and lucia get back on our feet, so thank you Kerre.

Unfortunately I won't be able to run the marathon this year but hey.. Paris is not such a bad place to have to travel to really is it... I'm sure I won't miss the running too much!

The crew is looking great, we have runners joining us from all over New Zealand including Gisbourne, Dunedin, Nelson, Carterton, New Plymouth, Hamilton and of course Auckland. We have a colourful bunch and all have expressed their strong interest in making the most of French wine, shopping, pastries and of course the Marathon!

This weekend sees the last session for this block, make sure you come along to our infamous interval training session and then be treated to a coffee afterwards care of GetRunning.

The rest of the year is looking great with a lot of interest in our next two training blocks, with a new training structure and once again visiting the Taupo half marathon. Last year was a wonderful trip with Gretchen Yate's family showing us a great time by providing a after run party! Watch out Taupo.. we're coming back!

Next week I have a new adminstration assistant starting with GetRunning, Tash is coming to us from a P.A and sports back ground and keen to get stuck into helping me out! I know all of you are feeling sorry for her, but I seriously think it will only make her a stronger character! Or tip her over the edge! :0) Tash will be taking care of things while I am away in Paris, please take it easy on her. I'll be back on the 17th of April, ready to tackle the next training block.

Lastly, there was not enough interest to keep the weekend sessions running on a temporary basis while I am away. Take the rest and I will see you all on my return!

Partnership annouced, House of Travel Calder & Lawson

Some of you may have noticed the 2011 Gold Coast Marathon Package had a different look to it. Its a pleasure to announce that GetRunning will be working with Calder & Lawson Marathon Tours to start providing you with more international hosted and tour guided trips. You may know this company if you have worked with Andrew Galloway Marathon Tours in the past, Calder and Lawson provided Andrew with his travel needs and just last year took over the business. Paul Forward and his team are a great bunch of people and passionate about taking marathon tours to a new level.

With the prospect of Calder and Lawson providing me entries for more of the big marathons like New York and London, I am excited to enter into a partnership and look to build our tours and further inhance a already promising and exciting part of the running industry. Expressions of interest

We are now taking expressions of interest for the 2012 GetRunning marathon tours, places have been confirmed for New York but we are currently looking at what other trips will be taking place next year. Please e-mail through your thoughts or anything you have seen that has taken your running eye.

End of 12 Week Training Block - 7th April

The current 12 Week training block comes to a end on Thursday the 7th of April, please note that training then starts back up on the 3rd of May - Tuesday. Please e-mail through for full information.

New training structure for 12 week group training block

Starting from the 7th of May there will be a new 12 week training structure, Please e-mail to receive the full details of this new block.

Highlights of the next training block:

  • GetRunning Nutrtion plan in association with Dr Libby Weaver (full package only)
  • Breathing and Posture workshop with Vincent Bolletta - Yoga Guru
  • Run Auckland race series, 5-10km races
  • Training towards the Norh Shore Marathon
  • Taupo Half Marathon accommodation/travel/race package
  • Three group training sessions per week

The next block starts the 7th of May, with new structure and another event option it is sure to keep you running and working towards the end of the year. A lot of you are looking at either Auckland or Hawaii Marathon, this is the perfect first step with working up to the half marathon.

Okahu Bay - Tamaki Drive

Interval Training
The session is designed to work through a 10km run, running 1km on and 1km off, the intensitywill vary from your race pace through to your aerobic pace. Its a great opportunity to understand your correct race pace and put training into practice.

Start times
All Groups - 7am

We are starting the run from Just across from Kelly Tarltons - Best to park in the Kelly Tarltons carpark, please be there 10mins early.

We will have brekkie at the Rosehip Cafe on Gladstone Road, plus I will be having the final Paris crew catch up at 10am after the group breakfast.

Where: North end of the Victoria Park
30 minute run and run specific strength program
Out and back course through Westhaven, followed by running specific strength training in Victoria Park.

Thursday - 6:15am

Run Starts: 6:15am
Where: Please meet at the GetRunning Office
Session will run through the tank farm with 500m-1km repeats, session is designed to sharpen you up for racing and take you to the next strength level.
